the unknown side of what's bumpin' in the trucks

So nasty…

I noticed they flashed Ike Turner’s picture on the Grammy’s “death roll” the other night, but I don’t seem to remember anybody making very much of a fuss when he passed away back in December of 2007. Kind of interesting that they gave Tina Turner the royal treatment this year too, like one last big kiss-off to Ike and his drug-addled, abusive ways. Ike and Tina were inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, but interestingly enough, Ike scored last year for best traditional blues album at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2007. Here’s one of my favorite Ike Turner tunes, from the album A Black Man’s Soul recorded with The Kings of Rhythm in 1969.
  1. Just a little shocker for you: I read in Harper’s Magazine that, according to Ike Turner’s own estimate, he spent roughly $11,000,000 on coke over the span of his life. It’s unfortunate that he will most likely be remembered most for his drug addiction and beating Tina, not for his incredible musical contributions.

  2. Ike Turner waz a grate musician, song writer and a legend of the blues. It is just unfair how the Tina Turner movie ruined his reputation. Like how Tina forgot to mention how Ike flew his whole family and crew in the 70s to LAS VEGAS when it was said that there would be an earth in his home town. He paid 4 everyones bills…now tell me if this was a selfish man.Tina ruined Ike…and well there are always two sides to a story.

  3. Thats sad how he treated her.He have problems.
