I noticed they flashed Ike Turner’s
picture on the Grammy’s “death roll” the other night, but I don’t seem to remember anybody making very much of a fuss when he passed away back in December of 2007. Kind of interesting that they gave Tina Turner
the royal treatment this year too, like one last big kiss-off to Ike and his drug-addled, abusive ways. Ike and Tina
were inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, but interestingly enough, Ike scored last year for best traditional blues album at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2007. Here’s one of my favorite Ike Turner tunes, from the album A Black Man’s Soul
recorded with The Kings of Rhythm in 1969.
